Beheler’s First Career Victory Propelled By Late Greyhound Goal

INDIANAPOLIS – In a mid-day matchup with the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets, the University of Indianapolis women's soccer team not only avenged a loss from a season ago but notched the first victory as head coach for Kelli Beheler. The Hounds recovered from a 2-1 deficit at the half, scoring two with the final coming with just under four minutes remaining by Antiya Sidibe for her first career goal.

INS AND OUTS
The Yellow Jackets jumped out early in the contest, nabbing the lead at the seven-minute mark. Both sides traded shots with it being Genevieve Crocker who tied it at 1-1 with a absolute rocket from 30-yards out.

Crocker placed one more towards the net, but to no avail. The Yellow Jackets answered with a goal of their own with under ten remaining in the first half.

The Hounds came out aggressively on both the defensive and offensive sides of the ball after the break, taking a pair of shots and forcing two corners within the first. Their aggression rewarded them, with Lyza Shamy placing a beautiful shot to the upper left corner, also from deep.

With it tied at two-apiece, the action got physical with each squad fighting for each ball. The teams combined for four fouls and one yellow in the next 20 minutes. With the time rounding down, Sabrina Shaw corralled a ball just in front of her own net. A pass to Emma Lopp and another pass to Sidibe gave the Hounds a coast-to-coast goal and the lead and the decider.

INSIDE THE BOX
- The Hounds won the shots battle, nearly doubling the season total with 13 on the day.
- Shamy and Maddy Theis were the iron-women for the Hounds, playing all 90.
- All three Greyhound goals were assisted.

HOUNDS BYTES
Head Coach Kelli Beheler on the win…
"I'm really proud of the girls, we talked at halftime about the things we needed to do to win this game and they came out here and did exactly that. Couldn't be more proud of them. I think it's a great start heading into conference play."

Beheler on the aggression in the second half…
"Honestly the game plan was getting the ball to the people we wanted on the ball, and I think that we talked a lot the last two games about finding good space with our players and they did that."

UP NEXT
The Hounds have one final non-conference tilt on schedule before they begin GLVC action. They hit the road Sunday for a matchup with the Northwood Timberwolves with first kick scheduled for noon.
