INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team fell on the road against Maryville with a 3-0 loss. This marks the first loss in GLVC play for UIndy this season; it takes their overall record to 8-3-1, and their GLVC record to 8-1-1.
This is the Greyhounds first loss in GLVC play since Oct. 20, 2023 when UIndy lost 2-0 to Upper Iowa. UIndy was outshot today by Maryville, 10 shots to four shots, which marks only the third time this season in which the Hounds were outshot by an opponent.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints got on the board early in the first half when Sebastian Weitlaner's shot was deflected by Maryville's Bryson Glisson to beat Ionas Giovanidis and give Maryville the 1-0 lead.
In the 15th minute, Mason Crew's header on a cross by Carl Norby was fumbled by Giovanidis and ended up in the back of the net to double the Saints lead.
There were very few chances by both teams in the final 30 minutes of the first half, but the Hounds did muster three chances of their own, two by Lucas Bedleg and one by Vincent Montoya that forced saves from Maryville's Steen Nielsen to keep the score at 2-0 as the teams headed to halftime.
Maryville continued their first half dominance in the second half after Yayo Mutombo's low driven shot in the 56th minute gave the Saints a 3-0 lead.
The Hounds were unable to find any offense the rest of the game, as they recorded no shots on goal in the entire second half, and eventually fell 3-0.
