Hounds Pluck Peacocks, Retain Outright GLVC Lead

FAYETTE, Iowa – The No. 21 UIndy football team earned a key victory Saturday in a battle of the top two teams in the GLVC. The Greyhounds made the trek to Upper Iowa and came away with a 40-13 win, holding the Peacocks to under 200 total yards.

INS & OUTS
After a scoreless first quarter, the Greyhounds amassed 26 points before the host Peacocks finally got on the board midway through the third. Junior quarterback Gavin Sukup was particularly efficient in helping build the lead as the reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Year racked up three touchdown passes and more than 50 rushing yards before Upper Iowa could score a point.

Meanwhile, the UIndy defense had the Peacocks on lockdown most of the afternoon. The Hounds limited their hosts to a mere 196 total yards and just 10 first downs in all, both setting season lows for UIndy opponents.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Sukup finished an impressive 19-for-22 passing (.864) for 227 yards and five touchdowns. The latter is a career high and most by a Greyhound since Bryce Stancombe tossed five TDs versus McKendree in the unique spring season of 2021.
- Sukup and Jon Lewis shared the game high with 65 rushing yards apiece. Lewis scored the team's only rushing TD with a one-yard plunge in the second quarter.
- Five UIndy defenders were credited with four total tackles, while seven had at least a half TFL. Amarion Evans had the team's lone sack.
- Cobi Lewis set a new personal best with 111 receiving yards on five receptions. Four different Hounds had a touchdown catch, including two by senior tight end Ethan Hand.
- Ian Burr launched a season-long 61-yard punt to flip the field late in the first quarter. The Hounds' next offensive possession started at the Upper Iowa 39 and led to the game's first score.
