UIndy Drops In-Region Bout with Malone

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball suffered another setback to start the season on Sunday afternoon, falling to in-region Malone by a score of 85-54 from Nicoson Hall.

Amyrah Sapenter recorded seven steals, the most for a Greyhound in in a game since Martha Burse did it three times in December 2017.

Atop the scoring column was Patricia Chikamba with 20 points, matching Malone's Erin Kaufman for the game's high.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy used a 6-0 run over the final 79 seconds of the opening quarter, with buckets from Halie Gilbert, Jaelynne Murray, and Sapenter, to lead 12-10.

However, the Pioneers jumped into another gear after the period, scoring 30 points to lead by 19 at the break. The Pioneers tallied 20 points off 13 UIndy turnovers in the first half, as well as nine points off eight offensive rebounds.

Chikamba scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half, with Sapenter committing five of her seven thefts after the break.

Queen Baker netted a pair of field goals in 6+ minutes of action during the fourth quarter, while freshman Heaven Thompson added two points in her collegiate debut.

- International newcomers Linoi Biton and Betul Gasgil both saw the floor on Sunday for the first time as Greyhounds.
- Chikamba also led the team with eight rebounds, including three on the offensive glass.
- Junior transfer Kylah Lawson drew her first start as a UIndy student-athlete, totaling five rebounds and four points in more than 20 minutes.
