Hounds Dig Past Miners to Begin February

ROLLA, Mo. – The UIndy men's basketball answered the call on Thursday evening, grinding out a 71-68 overtime road win at Missouri S&T.

Zac Szul capped a 9-0 Greyhound run in the final 3:49 of the extra session to lift the visitors to victory, flipping the script from last Saturday's overtime defeat at Lewis.

The victory marks the 17th straight such result against the Miners, dating back to Jan. 10, 2010.

INS & OUTS
A second straight heart-breaker stared UIndy in the face just 71 seconds into overtime, as Missouri S&T sprinted out to a 68-62 lead after a quick six points. The Greyhounds regained their composure following a timeout, as Kendrick Tchoua began the incredible 9-0 stretch with four points to cut the deficit to one possession.

After Jesse Bingham sunk a pair of free throws to knot the game at 68 apiece, Szul played hero – for the second time this season – with a dagger 3-pointer directly in front of the UIndy bench with a minute remaining.

The host Miners had their chance, however, looking for a quick bucket in the waning seconds. But it was Bingham swiping the ball away from Julien Smith in the paint to seal the win, the senior's lone steal of the evening.

UIndy looked to avoid overtime for the second time in six nights, as Jarvis Walker put the Crimson and Grey up three with an and-1 driving layup late in the second half. Just like the final moments, Missouri S&T received an opportunity to take the victory, but missed a look at the buzzer.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Sophomore Sean Craig secured a career-high nine rebounds in the win, while accounting for a pair of steals.
- Following back-to-back overtime games, Bingham has logged 83 minutes of action on the floor.
- Paul Zilinskas drilled a game-high four triples in the win, finishing with 15 points.
- UIndy limited Missouri S&T to just 30.3 percent shooting in the final 25 minutes, including a 2-for-11 effort from 3-point range.
- Tchoua recorded his third double-double of the season, adding 11 points to his 13 rebounds.

MORE NOTES
The Greyhounds held the Miners to more than 11 points (79.6 ppg) under their season average despite the extra session … UIndy has now held its opponents to 68 or less points on 12 occasions this season … S&T's Smith led with 16 points, sharing the top spot in the scoring column with Bingham … Greyhound center Julian Steinfeld finished with five rebounds and one block in 13 minutes off the bench.

UP NEXT
UIndy visits Maryville for a 4 p.m. ET tip on Saturday. The Greyhounds last defeated the Saints on Jan. 6 from Nicoson Hall, 74-52, and have won each of the past three meetings.
