Bulldogs Claw Past Greyhounds on Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball dropped a tight GLVC dog fight on Saturday, falling to Truman State University by a score of 79-72 from inside Nicoson Hall.

The Bulldogs avenged their early January loss to the Greyhounds with the victory, leading for more than 36 minutes of action.

Elana Wells, who nearly posted the first double-double of her career, finished with a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds.

INS AND OUTS
Truman looked like it may pull away late on Saturday before UIndy clawed back to tie it at 67 apiece with a Jada Patton dive to the bucket.

Despite the Greyhounds owning the paint most of the afternoon, the Bulldogs scored six straight points in the paint to build a four-point advantage with 46 seconds left. A single free throw from Wells was the only point UIndy could muster in the final minute, as Truman's hot-hand shooting in the second half proved too much.

The Bulldogs started the game on an impressive 11-0 run; however, the Greyhounds refused to quit early and forced a one-possession game after the first quarter with a pair of free throws from Jada Haines.

Patton was next in line in the score column with 19 points, while Liv Becker tallied 18 on an 8-for-13 effort from the field.

INSIDE THE BOX
- The Greyhounds committed just 14 fouls, matching a season-low effort.
- UIndy turned the ball over on nine possessions, its fourth time this season staying in single digits in the category.
- Caroline Jakaitis recorded the lone block for the Greyhounds, adding one assist and one steal.
- Patton joined Idalis Ortiz with three offensive rebounds each, with the team totaling 14 second-chance points.

MORE NOTES
UIndy now leads the all-time series, 12-10 … Greenwood, Ind., native and Truman senior Claire Rake drilled four triples, finishing with 12 points.

UP NEXT
UIndy hits the road once more with a battle at Quincy on Thursday, Feb. 15., for a 6 ET tip. It will be the first meeting between the programs this winter.
