Hounds Survive Scare at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. - The UIndy women's basketball team defeated Quincy, 71-68, on Thursday night. The Greyhounds are now 12-11 on the season and 9-8 in conference play.
 
Elana Wells was the leading scorer for the Hounds. Wells finished the night with 20 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the floor and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.
 
INS AND OUTS
UIndy's strong offense and defense were on display during the second quarter. The Greyhounds scored 16 points and held the Hawks to only 4 points in those 10 minutes. This was made accomplished by a 14-2 run for the first four minutes, going 5-of-7 from the field and 3-for-4 in 3-point territory. The Hounds entered the half up by 25 points with a score of 41-16.
   

Quincy picked up momentum in the third quarter. The Hawks went on a 12-point uncontested run to cut the lead down to single digits. Quincy was able to continue this mindset into the fourth quarter and tied the game at 63 with less than four minutes to go.
 
In those final minutes, the teams went back-and-forth the rest of hte way, fighting to maintain the lead. But a 3-pointer made by Liv Becker with 35 seconds left was the key play that led the Greyhounds to victory.
 

INSIDE THE BOX
- Jada Patton scored 18 points on the night, including 10 points in the first quarter alone.
- Ilani Williams-Harris was another Hound to finish in double-digits. She ended with 13 points and led the team in steals and blocks with two each.
- Patricia Chikamba and Liv Becker were key players near the basket for UIndy. Each player finished with eight rebounds, while the team finished with 37 boards.
- The Greyhounds were able to hold a lead over the Hawks for 88.8 percent of the time, a total of 30:30 minutes.
 
MORE NOTES
Cymirah Williams was the leading scorer for Quincy. At the end of the contest, Williams had 18 points and also led the team in assists with four. ... The Greyhounds continue to lead the Hawks in the all-time series, 33-23.
 
UP NEXT
UIndy will travel east to Springfield, Ill., to face Illinois Springfield. The contest will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17, with tip-off slated for 2 p.m. ET.
