Hounds Fall Short in High-Scoring Showdown

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - UIndy women's basketball lost 101-96 to Illinois Springfield in an offensive-heavy contest. The Hounds are now 12-12 on the season and 9-9 in GLVC play.
 
Jada Haines had an outstanding night on the court. Haines scored a season-high 33 points. The graduate student also had season highs in shooting going 10-of-19 from the field and 6-for-12 from beyond the arc.
 
INS AND OUTS

The Hounds started off strong in the first quarter going on a 8-0 uncontested run. Ilani Williams-Harris and Haines both scored 3-pointers during the run.
   

UIndy led UIS 47-41 at the half, and at the start of the third quarter went on a 7-0 run. The run included another Haines 3-pointer and led to the largest lead for the Greyhounds at 13 points.
 
The Prairie Stars turned up the jets and went on an 8-0 run on their own to bring the score within a few points. For the remainder of the contest, the teams traveled up and down the court fighting to keep the lead. With less than two minutes left, the UIS went on an 8-2 run to secure their win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
- Elana Wells finished just two assists away from a double-double. Wells finished with 26 points and eight assists.
- Williams-Harris was the final Hounds to finish in double-digits. The senior scored 12 points and led the team in steals with four.
- The Greyhounds were given many opportunities at the charity stripe. The team had 32 free-throw attempts and sank 25 of them.
- UIndy struggled with turnovers during the contest. The team lost the ball 23 times, with 18 of those being steals by UIS.
 
MORE NOTES
Jenessenia Lawson finished the game with a double-double. Lawson scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds. She also led the team in assists and steals with eight and six respectively. ... Despite the loss, the Hounds continue to lead the all-time series, 12-4.
 
UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will return to Nicoson Hall for their final weekend at home of the 2023-24 season. The Hounds will host William Jewell on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. and then celebrate senior day on Saturday, Feb. 24 with a contest against Rockhurst.
