Women's Lax Beats Young Harris, Secures First Win of Romig Era

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The No. 12 UIndy women's lacrosse team earned its first win on Sunday under the new leadership of head coach Peyton Romig, defeating Young Harris College by a score of 18-8 in the programs' first-ever meeting.

Seven Greyhounds scored in the win, led by Megan Dunn's game-high five goals. UIndy blanked Young Harris in each the first and fourth quarters, refusing to allow a shot in the opening 15 minutes.

INS & OUTS
The Greyhounds netted the first eight goals of the afternoon, creating an insurmountable lead with seven scores in the first quarter. UIndy stretched its advantage to six in a span of 50 seconds late in the frame, when Joey Fowler sprinted through the Mountain Lion defense.

Trailing 9-1 midway through the second, Young Harris clawed back with five goals of its own in the final eight minutes. Caroline Krauch and Mackenzie Winn found the back of the cage in meantime as the teams swapped goals over the next 22 minutes of action.

The Mountain Lions only managed six shots in the fourth quarter, as the Greyhounds outscored their hosts, 4-0, to win by double digits. Dunn scored with 67 seconds left to give herself a goal in every quarter on Sunday, following Olivia Bladon's fourth of the day.

Freshman goalkeeper Ava Graham rebounded in the second half, making five of her six saves after the break to earn her first collegiate win between the pipes.

MORE NOTES
Assistant coach Casey Korb was previously on staff at Young Harris prior to joining Romig at UIndy … it was a homecoming of sorts for sophomore Ella Fornek, who is from Lawrenceville, Ga., just two-and-a-half hours from Young Harris … Dunn assisted on four other goals, totaling nine points in the win.
