Hounds Sweep Competition on Day One of Blue Bridge Battle

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Ninth-ranked UIndy earned a pair of region wins on day one of the Blue Bridge Battle. Hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan, UIndy faced Michigan schools Northwood and Ferris State. The Greyhounds are now 8-1 on the season and on a five-game win streak.

GAME 1 | UIndy 7, Northwood 0
All-American Kenzee Smith tossed a complete-game shutout to move to 3-0 on the young
season. In 106 pitches, Smith only walked two batters and finished with nine strikeouts.

Offensively, the Greyhounds got on the board quickly with a three-run first inning. They started the game with three consecutive walks, setting up a two-run double by Lexy Reese and later an
RBI groundout by Dominique Proctor.

UIndy was able to add four more runs in the fifth inning. The frame featured three hits, three walks and two steals, with Rees, Proctor, and Braxton Downs providing the RBIs.

Megan Nichols amassed two runs, two walks, and two stolen bases in the contest. Emily
O'Conner and Downs both scored twice.

GAME 2 | UIndy 6, Ferris State 1
UIndy was able to score in all but one inning during the contest. Two runs were off sacrifice flies hit by O'Connor and Reese. Jocelyn Calvin hit a double in the second inning and earned two RBIs. Shelby Cook was able to get an RBI of her own due to a fielder's choice. The final run on the day was due to an error by the Bulldogs allowing Cook, who was on base with a single, to advance all the way home.

For the first time this season, Jayden Casebolt remained inside the circle for the entirety of the contest. Casebolt only allowed one walk the entire game and struck out six batters. The junior now improves her season record to 3-1.

Proctor added two more hits in the cappe, while Calvin and Nichols had a pair of walks apiece.
