Bats Stay Hot as Hounds Cruise to Two More Spring Break Wins

JAN PHYL VILLAGE, Fla.—The No. 8-ranked UIndy softball team continued to roll on its Spring Break trip, dismantling Pitt.-Johnstown and Lake Erie Monday by scores of 17-1 and 10-0, respectively. UIndy is a perfect 4-0 in Florida thus far, combining for an impressive 46 runs in the four wins.

GAME 1 | UIndy 17, Pitt.-Johnstown 1 (5 innings)
UIndy jumped on the Mountain Cats with three runs in the top of the first and didn't look back. When it was all said and done, the Greyhounds scored in all five innings on the way to a new season-high run total.

Fifth-year senior Emily O'Connor is on an historic tear at the plate. After smacking four home runs yesterday—including a modern-day single-game UIndy record three versus Saint Anselm, the New Palestine, Ind., native went yard again on Monday, this time with a three-run shot in the second inning.

Shelby Cook and Jocelyn Calvin joined the power surge with solo home runs later in the contest, while Calvin tacked on a three-run double in the fifth to cap the scoring.

Braxton Downs finished 2-for-2 with a walk, while Dominique Proctor and Hailey Pogue chipped in a pair of RBIs apiece. Thirteen Hounds scored at least one run.

Reigning GLVC Pitcher of the Week Jayden Casebolt and fifth-year senior Kaitlyn Brown shared duties in the circle. Casebolt (7-1) pitched 3 1/3 innings to earn the win, while Brown fanned three over 1 2/3 scoreless frames.

GAME 2 | UIndy 10, Lake Erie 0 (5 innings)
With ace Kenzee Smith dealing, UIndy steamrolled  in-region Lake Erie in game two, 10-0. O'Connor homered yet again, as did classmate Lexy Rees. The veteran sluggers combined for eight of the team's nine RBIs in the game, with four of Rees' coming on a fourth-inning grand slam—her fourth career salami.

Smith moved to 8-0 after spinning her eighth shutout in nine starts this season. She struck out seven and walked zero in an efficient five innings of work.

Sydnee Perry had a pair of doubles, Downs coaxed three walks, Megan Nichols scored three times and Grace Mosele finished 2-for-2 with a base on balls.

UP NEXT
UIndy gets a day off tomorrow before facing in-region Purdue Northwest and New Haven on Wednesday. The former game, which starts at 2:15 p.m. ET, is schedule to have live stats available here.
