INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 7 UIndy men's lacrosse team suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 9-8 decision to Rockhurst from Key Stadium.
Â
The Hawks scored three straight goals in the final 68 seconds – including overtime – to steal the GLVC victory.
Â
Nathan Lam and
Justin Williams each scored a pair of goals, while
Jack Sullivan recorded six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Â
INS & OUTS
It was a tight battle all afternoon, as the lead for both teams never stretched to more than two.
Owain Braddock kicked off Saturday's scoring before the Hawks rattled off three straight in the first nine minutes of the second quarter to hold the advantage. Williams scored just before the break, finding the back of the cage with an assist from
Nick Randgaard.
Â
Dougie Crawford gave UIndy its first lead in more than 42 minutes, sprinting down the field before receiving a beautiful entry pass from
Triston Schaffer to score his second goal of the spring.
Â
Schaffer himself netted his lone goal of the afternoon early in the fourth quarter to put the Greyhounds up a pair. After Rockhurst responded, Williams did so, as well, seemingly putting the game out of reach with an 8-6 lead as 1:36 read on the scoreboard.
Â
The Hawks had other plans; after a score from Nate Adamson with 51 ticks left in regulation, Ricky Bloom made the Hounds pay for a costly turnover and forced overtime as two seconds remained. Jonah McConnell won it for the visitors just 18 seconds into the extra session, scoring his fourth goal of the contest.
Â
