Sixth-Ranked Hounds Falter in Top-10 Matchup

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The No. 6 UIndy men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-9 decision to Newberry on Saturday afternoon in a battle between top-10 programs.

Owain Braddock scored a team-high four goals, while Nick Randgaard recorded two assists, two ground balls, and one caused turnover. Defensively, Trevor Lockwood finished with three scoops and two caused turnovers.

INS & OUTS
A promising first quarter saw the Greyhounds lead after 15 minutes, with a scoop-and-score from FOGO Caleb Parker with 1:11 left gave the visitors a 4-2 advantage. Dylan Braddock followed Triston Schaffer's goal to open the game just 68 seconds later, while Nathan Lam also found the back of the cage late in the frame.

The Wolves blanked the Hounds in the second to take control heading into the half. Braddock (Owain) knotted the game at five apiece at the 10:36 mark of the third quarter, which seemingly jump started the Newberry offense. The Wolves scored five goals over the course of the next three minutes to build a 10-5 lead, a deficit the Hounds would not overcome.

Dougie Crawford scored the final goal of the contest with under two minutes left, scooping up his second ground ball of the afternoon and flying down the field.

INSIDE THE BOX
- The Hounds had six extra-man opportunities on Saturday, but could not take advantage against the understaffed Wolves defense.
- Jack Sullivan tallied a pair of ground balls.
- UIndy netminder KC Carlson made six saves between the pipes, including four in the first half.

MORE NOTES
With its win, Newberry evened the all-time series 1-1; UIndy won the opener back in 2022, which also took place at the Wolves' home field.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will get their chance at another in-region ranked opponent in Rollins, with the first faceoff scheduled for 12 p.m. at Key Stadium. Rollins won the first two meetings between the programs in 2016 and 2017, the latter decided in overtime in the Circle City.
