Coach Heady Introduced at On-Campus Press Conference

INDIANAPOLIS – The 12th UIndy men's basketball head coach in program history, Scott Heady, was officially welcomed in an introductory press conference on Thursday afternoon, held at the Enders Student Engagement Space in Schwitzer Center on campus.

"Scott's one of our most decorated men's basketball alumni of all-time. He's part of an amazing pedigree," said Interim Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. D. Scott Gines during the introduction.

During his seven-year tenure at Marian University, Heady led the Knights to the NAIA national tournament each season, including a run to the semifinals in 2019. Additionally, the 1986 UIndy (then Indiana Central College) alum guided Carmel High School to back-to-back IHSAA 4A state titles in 2012 and 2013.

An excited Heady introduced his family to everyone in attendance, including campus members and several local media outlets before graciously thanking UIndy President Dr. Tanuja Singh.

"I was at the Final Four in Phoenix and the first person to call me was Dr. Singh…that was pretty impressive," Heady praised. "I really appreciate all the people that were involved in making this decision and providing this opportunity for me and my family."

Reluctant to discuss the Xs-and-Os, Heady was eager to officially get started and maintain the winning tradition previous head coaches built.

"This is a basketball program that has had success for a period of time," said Heady. "Going back to Royce Waltman, the late Royce Waltman, and Stan Gouard and what he did for the program and then the last few years under Paul Corsaro. A lot of success."

Heady continued: "We're going to put a product on the floor that the UIndy campus, the community, and the city of Indianapolis can be proud of."

The Heady era has officially begun.
