INDIANAPOLIS – After a rough game two of the set, the University of Indianapolis baseball team fired on all cylinders in the Sunday finale doubleheader with the Quincy Hawks. The Hounds took the phrase "early and often" unbelievably literal, scoring in both first innings as well as plating runs in nine of their 12 innings of offense.
Â
The longball favored the Hounds today at Greyhound Park as they blasted four of the park with two of them coming off the bat of
Will Spear, the latter of which coming with the bases juiced.
Â
Logan Peterson was key in game one, limiting the potent offense of the Hawks to three runs across 5 & 2/3 innings.
Â
GAME 1 | UIndy 7, Quincy 4
The Hounds bats worked quick with
Easton Good hammering a double to left field, eventually being brought home on a
Zack Williams single to grant an early lead for the Hounds. That lead was built upon by
Drew Donaldson in the third with his fifth bomb of the season.
Â
Â
Spear and
Cole Hampton made it back-to-back-to-back homer innings for the Hounds with them poking ones out in the fourth and the fifth.
Â
The Hawks attempted a comeback in the sixth and seventh, dropping four runs on the Hounds but the efforts of
Austin Bestul kept the run at bay.
Â
GAME 2 | UIndy 16, Quincy 11
After a rough first inning by
Jackson Kirkpatrick where the Hawks plated two, the Hounds offense picked him up and more. It all started with
Caleb Vaughn's RBI single with the bases loaded. That began a baton passing parade as
Dakota Sill laid down a beauty of a bunt to score Donaldson from third. The big blow eventually came as Spear, already a bomb on the day, made it a double-dinger day with a grand slam.
Â
Â
Two more runs came across as the Hounds batted around, the finale coming with William's hammering a ball down the left field line, scoring the final two runs of the inning.
Â
UIndy continued to toss up numbers on the board with three in the second and one in the third. Quincy, as is common in the GLVC, refused to quit. The Hawks used a big 2 RBI homer by Jake Vitale to kick off a seven-run frame that brought the Greyhound lead down to just four.
Â
Another in the fifth force the hand of the Hounds as they brought in
E.J. White. Already the GLVC save leader, White earned his eighth save of the year, going 2 & 1/3, giving up two hits and one run.

UP NEXT
It is the biggest series of the GLVC baseball season as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the GLVC square off in Indianapolis this coming weekend. Facing the Maryville Saints in a four-game set, it will more than likely be crucial to GLVC tournament seeding which is only three weeks away.
