Hounds Capture 8th-Straight Win in One-Sided Affair

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 25-ranked University of Indianapolis were dominant in game one of their last home series, downing the Truman State Bulldogs 14-1 in seven innings of work.

Propelled by a massive third innings, the Hounds tallied 13 hits in the contest, with four of them for extra bases. It was a day for Caleb Vaughn as the senior from the Circle City plated four runs, falling a double shy of the cycle.

Will Spear and Easton Good both tallied two-RBI days as well.

Diego Cardenas recorded his third-straight quality start, going six strong, and giving up no earned runs. The redshirt sophomore limited the Bulldogs to just six total base runners on 76 total pitches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a first-inning throwing error plated a run for the Bulldogs, it wasn't until the third inning that the Hounds answered against Truman's Isaac Epp.

UIndy answered and more, with runs being scored on five-straight batters, starting with Good's bases loaded hit by pitch. It was only after five Greyhounds had scored when Vaughn pelted one over the left field wall.

The floodgates were open from there, with an error and a Bryce Goodwine RBI-single capping off the nine-run inning.

In the fourth inning, Vaughn later added a triple and a run, leaving the score 12-1 after the frame. The Hounds tacked on two more as Cardenas continued to cook from the mound.

Zach Rana came in to snag the final three outs of the game in style, punching out two Bulldogs to secure the first-game victory for the Hounds.

MILESTONE DONALDSON
Already holding records for runs scored in total bases for a season, Drew Donaldson has now added another to his resume. With a walk in the bottom of the third, Donaldson snapped a 23-year-old record for career walks with his 110th of his tenure in the Crimson and Grey. The previous mark of 109 was set by none other than Greyhound Head Coach Al Ready.

THE CARDENAS REPORT
Cardenas now moves to 5-0 on the season which ties him for the team lead with Carter Nowak and Payton Plym. His efforts brought his team-leading ERA down to 2.70, which is the best mark in the conference, just 0.06 better than Griffin Kirn of Quincy. He also moves into first place for opponents' batting average, with other teams only recording a .195 average against him, sitting as the only player – that qualifies – that can claim that stat.
