Baseball Sends Off Senior Class with Series Sweep of Truman

INDIANAPOLIS – On a day where the Hounds celebrated a group of 17 seniors, they also celebrated on the diamond their 11th victory in a row and their second GLVC baseball sweep in a row, dominating the series finale against the Truman State Bulldogs.

Before the finale, the Hounds celebrated a group of seniors that helped bring the program it's third regional title just a season ago. Those seniors included Drew Donaldson, Zach Fell, Cameron Ginter, Scott Henrich, Jackson Kirkpatrick, Brandon Markarian, Brady Mundell, Logan Peterson, Zach Rana, Blake Sarjent, Dakota Sill, Will Spear, Caleb Vaughn, Luis Vergara, E.J. White, Zack Williams and Nolen Wolf.

After the festivities, it was fitting that a senior went off, with Spear serving that roll as he continued his red-hot streak. He went 3 for 4 from the plate with four RBIs just a day removed from his walk off against the Bulldogs,  grabbing his third dinger of the season alongside double No. 6 in his efforts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The visiting Bulldogs, trying to salvage the series that was already captured by the Greyhounds, started out hot once again, etching across the first run of the ballgame in the first. It marks the third time in the series where Truman scored first.

But much like the other two times, the early runs did not hold on for long as an RBI groundout by Williams in the bottom half scored the tying run. But that was just the start as in the second frame Spear hit one that had no doubts about it.

That homer sparked a six-run stretch for the Hounds, leaving the score 6-1 after just three played. It wasn't until three innings later for a Bulldog response, one that was swiftly responded to by the Hounds. After a top of the sixth run by Truman was quickly overshadowed by three in the bottom half and then another two in the seventh.

UP NEXT
Already with a share of the GLVC regular-season title secured, the Hounds will look to clinch the full thing on the road at Lewis University as they travel up to Lewis on May 2-4.
