INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis student-athlete
Brayden Cole earned distinction among the nation's fastest swimmers over the weekend. The Carthage, Mo., native competed at the Stadium Splash Meet in downtown Indianapolis Saturday, hitting a U.S. Olympic Trials cut time in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Â
Held at Lucas Oil Stadium—home of the Indianapolis Colts, the event was the first-ever swim meet held in an NFL stadium. The meet was also used to test systems and workflows for the upcoming
U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Â
Cole swam 1:02.94 in prelims and 1:01.85 in finals of the 100 breaststroke, with the latter mark besting the Olympic Trials standard of 1:02.19. His time tied the 51st seed among at least 85 total entries in the event.
Â
Cole, who is returning to UIndy for a fifth year in 2024-25, will be one of only seven active Division II student-athletes competing at the upcoming Olympic Trials. Cole will race in the 100 breaststroke prelims this Saturday, June 15, with the top 16 times advancing to the semifinals.
Â
Cole is a six-time All-American for the Greyhounds. He handled the breaststroke leg for UIndy's national-championship-winning and DII-record-setting swim at 200 medley relay at the 2024 NCAA DII Championships last March. Individually, he placed third at Nationals in the 100 breast.
