Volleyball Completes KWC Invitational 4-0 After Day Two Sweep

OWENSBORO Ky. -  The UIndy women's volleyball team swept their competition of the KWC Invitational. The Hounds defeated Thomas More in the morning before coming back and defeating hosting Kentucky Wesleyan. UIndy went 4-0 on the weekend with two of which being three-set sweeps.
 
"I thought we had a really nice weekend and we're starting to get a bit," said head coach Jason Reed. "We have a long way to go and our consistency still needs to be a focus as the season continues. Our confidence should continue to improve with each win. We're looking forward to getting better this week in practice."

GAME 1 | UIndy 3, Thomas More 1
The Greyhounds battled the Saints for the first three sets before blowing them out, 25-12, in the fourth while holding them to a -.079 hitting to win the match.

The Greyhounds hit .245 overall during the match and held Thomas More to .145. Senior Sophia Parlanti hit .262 and tabbed 16 kills. Helping her was junior Claire Morris totaling 51 assists, a season high.
 
Libero Ellie Spang was key player on defense, grabbing 15 digs. Kelsey McKenney and Parlanti made an impact on the Hounds front row by tabbing six blocks each.
 
GAME 2 | UIndy 3, Kentucky Wesleyan 0
This is the second time the two in region rivals faced each other this season, with both coming out in favor of the Greyhounds. The squad came out hot, downing KWC 25-11 in the first set and hitting .429.
 
Maddie Berger led the team in kills during the match, gathering 14. Parlanti was not far behind her with 11. Also on offense, Addyson Viers secured two aces with Mia Moser getting one.
 
On defense, McKenney led the team in blocks with five. Spang finished with 12 digs, a team-high. The Hounds' defense held the Saints to .088 hitting,
 
UP NEXT
UIndy will travel to Frostburg, Md., to wrap up their non-conference schedule at the Frostburg State Tournament. The Greyhounds will face four non-region teams, up first will be Kutztown and Edinboro on Friday Sept. 20. The next day the Hounds will take on host Frostburg State and Goldey-Beacom.
