INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team took home the 2-0 win on Sunday in a physical battle against versus William Jewell.
The game was a very back-and-forth chippy game, with 31 total fouls between both teams – 18 for UIndy and 13 for William Jewell. The teams also tied with 13 shots each, including six shots on goal for the Greyhounds and five on goal for the Cardinals.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Much of the first 15 minutes did not consist of a lot of opportunities, but the Hounds took advantage of their first chance on goal in the 15th minute when Roman Beko delivered a free kick into the box which Medard Mikobi got his head on to give the Hounds a 1-0 lead. Â
The Hounds continued pushing to get a second goal, with shots by August Abrahamsen and Lucas Bedleg, whose shot forced a save out of the Cardinals goalkeeper, Umberto Dicarlo, in the 34th minute.
UIndy found their second goal in the 38th minute when Joey Longo's low driven shot to the left side of the goal beat the outstretched arm of DiCarlo and gave the Hounds the 2-0 lead headed to halftime.
The second half was all about big chances, saved by UIndy's, Ionas Giovanidis, and the Cardinals, DiCarlo.
The biggest chance for the Hounds came in the 78th minute when DiCarlo stopped two consecutive shots by Beko and Landon Montfort. While the Cardinals biggest chance came in the 85th minute when Giovanidis saved a low driven shot by William Jewell's Zach Nichols. Â
Giovanidis made four crucial saves to keep the Hounds ahead for the entire second half, while DiCarlo made three saves to keep the deficit only at two.Â
Even with plenty of chances, there were no goals, which gave the Hounds the 2-0 win, and extended their unbeaten streak against the Cardinals to 14 straight games.  Â
