INDIANAPOLIS - The defending GLVC champion UIndy men's soccer team stumbled in their first match of the 2024 season, falling to Lincoln Memorial on Sunday, 3-0. It marks the Greyhounds' first loss to open the start of a season since 2017.
The beginning of the match was a defensive battle between both teams, with the first shot of the game coming in the 12th minute by Lincoln Memorial.
The deadlock was broken in the 29th minute when Lincoln Memorial's Guilherme Galvao scored to give the Railsplitters a 1-0 lead off the throw-in restart with a right-footed shot that beat the Hounds' Joey Schrand.
The Hounds quickly responded in the 30th minute with a goal of their own off a header from Bobby Turner.
The second half started with much of the same from the first half, a defensive battle leaning slightly in favor of the Splitters.
The tide turned when Lucas Bedleg received a straight red card in the 59th minute of play, leaving the Hounds with 10 players for the rest of the match.
The booking would prove costly when Galvao scored his second goal of the match just eight minutes later to give the Splitters a 2-0 lead.
Lincoln Memorial secured the win with another goal in the 79th minute by Botond Skulka to cement the 3-0 win for the Splitters.
UIndy recorded just two shots as a team the entire match, both by Turner.
