Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – In their first regular season match of the season, the University of Indianapolis men's tennis team defeated Tiffin University 6-1 this Friday, Jan 31.

The Hounds faced adversity early, falling in the doubles point 1-2. The doubles team of Asier Ayllon Prado and Tadeo Gaggiofatto fell 4-6 to Martin Dreisner and Romain Marionneau, but Lorenzo Di Cursi and Manu Lanteri overpowered Tiffin's Romain Nicolas and Lorenzo Perucchini 6-3 to knot the doubles point up at one a piece.
It all came down to #1 doubles, where Matthieu Derache and David Simeonov faced a deficit of 0-5 to Jose Portillo and Nico Ritz. Derache and Simeonov went on to win six of the next seven games to force a tiebreaker, forcing four service breaks in the process. In the breaker, Derache and Simeonov fell 10-8, after coming back from a 0-4 start.
The Hounds flipped a switch in singles competition, as UIndy swept all six matches. Simeonov cruised through Mattia Colli 6-1 6-3 to give the Hounds their first point of the afternoon. Lanteri followed suit moments after, besting Perucchini 6-3 7-6.
Derache and Ayllon Prado collected the third and fourth point for the Hounds after they both prevailed through three-set matches. Derache kicked his game into high gear after dropping the first set to Dreisner 5-7, winning set two 6-2, and set three 6-4. Ayllon Prado clinched the first set in a tiebreak against Marionneau, and closed out the match 1-6, 6-3.
In the #5 singles match, Gaggiofatto made easy work of Portillo, winning 6-1 6-2. Di Cursi finished the afternoon with a 7-5 2-6 7-6 victory over Nicolas, ousting him in a long-winded tiebreaker.
