Hounds Battle Tough Field at Annual Indiana Intercollegiate Meet

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The UIndy swimming & diving program finished the busiest leg of a jam-packed weekend on Saturday, competing at the Dan Ross Indiana Intercollegiate at Purdue University. With many of the Greyhounds competing at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Carmel, the split squad finished fourth at Purdue in both the men's and women's final standings. The field featured 10 other schools from across the state, including seven Division I teams.

Elias Noe, who himself was fresh off a solid performance at Worlds yesterday, managed the Greyhounds' only event win at Purdue. He won two races, in fact, touching first in the 50 free (20.63) before improving his NCAA B standard with a win in the 100 fly (47.20). Nico Basten earned a runner-up finish in the 100 IM, while Johann-Matthew Matamoro placed third in the 100 free.

Matamoro and Noe, along with Jokubas Jankaukas and Mmusi Matthews, combined for a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Later, Nick Quintero joined forces with Jankauskas, Matamoro and Noe in the 200 free relay, placing fourth with a time of 1:24.15.

Kirabo Namutebi notched UIndy's best individual finish on the women's side. A day after placing 16th at Worlds in the 50-meter free, the Uganda native took on some of the state's fastest sprinters in the 50-yard sprint, taking the runner-up spot in 23.73 seconds. Junior Addisyn Newman placed fourth in the 50 (24.19), and Celina Schmidt finished eighth in the 10 breaststroke (1:05.48).

Smack in the middle of the meet was the rare 500 free relay. Ten swimmers from each team swam 50 each yards in the unique format, with the UIndy men placing fourth and the women sixth.

Megan Sunderman led the Greyhound effort on the diving boards, finishing 11th on the one-meter and 10th on the three-meter. Freshman Donovan McMahon did the same for the men, placing 15th and 12th, respectively.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds have a few weeks off before they compete again. They will next face a quality Grand Valley State program in a dual meet on Nov. 1 in Allendale, Mich.
