Hounds Increase Win Streak to Six with Pair of GLVC Road Victories

ROLLA, Mo. —  The Hounds picked up two more conference wins this weekend, increasing their overall streak to six.

Senior outside hitter Paige Parlanti had a stellar weekend for the Hounds, highlighted by her performance against Maryville, where she led the game in both kills and digs. Hitting for 23 kills and scooping up 25 digs for UIndy. Parlanti is the first Greyhound to hit 20-20 since Kristina Kerrigan on November 2, 2012.

After crawling back from a 14-5 point deficit to open the match, the Greyhounds rolled the Miners in a three-set sweep on Friday night. The Hounds were dominant in the second set, beginning the set with a 9-1 run, finishing out the set by scoring nine out of the final 10 points in the set.

Parlanti led the attack for the Hounds with a game-high 16 kills. Caitlin Blomberg and Maddie Berger were also big contributors to the UIndy offense with 10 and 8 kills, respectively. The Hounds had 49 kills on 123 total attempts, hitting .260, over twice as efficient as the Miners, who hit for an attacking percentage of .122 with 28 kills on 115 total attempts.

Macy Bruton led the game with a career-high 25 digs for the Greyhounds, followed by Makenzie Pflederer, who was a dig shy of her season high with 12 on the match.

After dropping set three, the Hounds only trailed the Saints 0-1 the entire fourth set, holding the lead over Maryville not allowing the Saints to come within two points for a majority of the final set, before closing out the match with an ace from Carly Fonda to win the set 25-17 for UIndy.

The Hounds battled in a close two opening sets. The Maryville crawled back into set one after UIndy jumped to an early lead to start the match, taking their first lead 24-23 in set one. The Saints could not shake the Hounds who answered with three consecutive points to with kills from Kaitlin Fasbender and Pflederer to finish the set.

Set two was a similar story, with Maryville taking its first lead of the match at 19-18. A kill from Parlanti evened the scoring for the Hounds, followed by a Maddie Berger kill to regain the lead for the Hounds 26-25. Another Berger kill followed by a kill from Pflederer sealed the deal for the Hounds in the second set.

In addition to Parlanti's performance, Pflederer contributed 15 kills for the UIndy as the Hounds' offense bested the Saints 63 to 49 in team kills. Bruton added 23 digs of her own, trailing Parlanti's 25 digs for the second-highest on the night.
