CARMEL, Ind. – UIndy senior
Jeremias Pock made a statement last weekend on an international stage, qualifying for three finals at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup. Competing with some of the fastest swimmers on the planet, Pock set personal bests across the board at the meet, hosted by the Carmel High School Natatorium Complex in nearby Carmel, Ind.
The event kicked off the World Cup Series as the first of three SCM (short course meters) meets in North America this month. Pock was one of 26 Greyhounds to take advantage of the elite competition in their own backyard, and the German native more than held his own.
Pock finaled three times on the weekend, placing fourth in the 100 breaststroke, fifth in the 200 breast and seventh in the 200 IM. In the 100 breast, he finished just 0.18 seconds back of SCM world-record-holder Ilya Shymanovich of Belarus, while later besting Shymanovich in the 200 breast.
Another UIndy highlight came from freshman
Harrison Andoko. The young Indonesian reset his home country's three-and-half-year-old record in the SCM 200 free, touching in 1:48.21.
Silas Buessing finished 10th overall in the 200 back,
Kirabo Namutebi placed 16th in the 50 free, and
Elias Noe finished 24th in the 100 fly.
