HAMMOND, Ind. — Ohio Dominican defeated the University of Indianapolis 3-1 in a non-conference match at Hammond Sportsplex on Saturday afternoon, with set scores of 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19. The Greyhounds recorded 12 total blocks in the contest.
The opening set between the Greyhounds and the Panthers began with Ohio Dominican taking an early lead, capitalizing on a kill by Ashley Aselage and a block from Ava Horn and Aselage to go up 2-0. The Greyhounds responded with
Paige Parlanti securing two kills, assisted by
Carly Fonda, leveling the score at 2-2. However, Ohio Dominican surged ahead with a series of service aces by Lauren Dinunzi, extending their lead to 7-2. The Greyhounds rallied back to narrow the gap to 11-9, with kills from
Makenzie Pflederer and
Maddie Berger, both assisted by Fonda. Despite the Greyhounds' efforts, Ohio Dominican maintained control, with Saige Avery and Logan Rubel contributing crucial kills to secure a 25-19 set victory.
The Greyhounds clinched the second set 25-21, bolstered by effective plays from several key players. Fonda contributed significantly with multiple kills and a decisive service ace to conclude the set.
Lauren Gips and Fonda also teamed up for critical blocks, halting Ohio Dominican's momentum on several occasions. Despite Ohio Dominican's efforts, including kills by Jenna Peters and Logan Rubel, the Greyhounds' consistent scoring and defensive plays ensured their victory in this set.
Ohio Dominican secured the third set with a 25-19 win. Jenna Peters contributed to Ohio Dominican's early momentum with kills at both the start and the end of the set. The Greyhounds responded with strong performances from Parlanti, who recorded multiple kills, including three consecutive points, to narrow the gap to 24-19. However, the set concluded on a service error to give the set to  Ohio Dominican.
Ohio Dominican secured a 25-19 victory over the Greyhounds in the fourth set, concluding the match. A series of service errors and attack errors by both teams kept the score tight until Ohio Dominican widened the gap with service aces from Dinunzi. The Greyhounds attempted a rally with a service ace from Fonda, but a final kill by Peters, again assisted by Avery, sealed the set and the match for Ohio Dominican.
