BROWNSBURG, Ind. -- This weekend, the UIndy men's tennis program claimed five of eight draws in the Knight Time Tennis Tournament, a flighted singles and doubles tournament hosted by Marian University at Brownsburg High School.
The Greyhounds claimed the top three draws in singles, and took home flights A and B in doubles.
INS AND OUTS
The Greyhounds raked in eight total wins through the singles draws on Friday, while collecting three wins in doubles competition.
Asier Ayllon Prado and Jovan Matovic got the ball rolling in the doubles A Draw with a 6-3 win over Ethan Remy and Jaden Coley from Tiffin.
In the bottom half of the A Draw, Vlad Gorbatenko and Lorenzo di Cursi topped Jorge Cebria and Juan Wilches from St. Francis 6-4.
In the doubles B Draw, Zaid Shelbaya and Arda Aroyo bageled SFU's Enzo Bozonnet and Hugo Gonzalez, moving to Saturday with a 6-0 win.
In singles, all eight Hounds moved onto Saturday's competition with first round victories.
The team of Ayllon Prado and Matovic started the second round with a bang, posting a resounding 6-2 win over Marian's Jan Bartolome and Marcos Ramos.
In the A Draw final, the duo outpaced Mateo Guerin and John Ashworth of Marian 6-4 to cap an undefeated weekend.
Shelbaya and Aroyo followed suit on Saturday, coming out on top against MU's Felipe Maggi and Bogdan Precupescu in the semifinal, and defeating the Knight's Juan Garcia and Marc Soriano 6-3 in the B Draw final.
The singles A-Draw hosted a matchup between two Hounds, as both Matovic and Ayllon plucked wins in the semifinals. Ayllon Prado came out on top with a 6–2, 6-3 win.
It was an all-UIndy final in the B-Draw as well, as Gorbatenko and Di Cursi met each other in the final. Di Cursi prevailed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory,
In the C-Draw, Shelbaya capped an undefeated run with a comeback win over Marian's Juan Garcia-Tunon, taking home a narrow 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 win in the breaker.
