INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team grabbed its first win of a two game homestand on Friday night against Southwest Baptist, 2-0. This is the Hounds' seventh consecutive victory over the Bearcats dating back to 2019, and the fifth shutout in those seven Greyhound wins.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was a defensive stalemate, with neither team creating any real threatening chances. Keerti Unnamatla recorded two saves in the 13th and 40th minutes to keep the score level at zero headed to the half.
Out of the break the Hounds woke up and found their opening goal just 51 seconds into the half, on a brilliant curling finish from Alvaro Sanchez, which was set up by a Sam Siegel cross that was dummied by Lucas Bedleg, finding a wide open Sanchez on the back side.
Â
Nikolas Karnesis got the Hounds their second goal of the match nine minutes later, when Karnesis and
August Abrahamsen played a bit of tic-tac-toe around the Southwest Baptist defense, ending in a Karnesis low bullet that doubled UIndy's lead.
Â
The rest of the second half didn't have much to write home about, but Unnamatla did compile three more saves, adding to his tally of five for the night, and keeping the clean sheet for the Hounds.
