Swim/Dive Wraps Up Midseason Meet

OXFORD, Ohio – The No. 3/6 ranked UIndy swimming & diving teams wrapped up their midseason meet at the Miami Invitational Saturday night, notching another school record and three more A-cuts. The final team standings showed the UIndy men finishing second only to Notre Dame and the Greyhound women placing fifth amongst the mostly-DI field.

Final results will be posted when available.

SATURDAY RECAP
Newcomer Swann Plaza turned in an impactful performance on the final day of competition. The Frenchman not only posted an A-cut time in the men's 1650 free but also reset the school record with a time of 14:55.99 to win the event by 25 seconds.

Meanwhile, a number of other Hounds earned B-cuts in the mile, including William Pettifer and Emmett Shank in the men's A-final and Sydney Alamein and Malaika Claudic in the women's B-final.

The Greyhounds breaststrokers continued to be a strong point, with both Celina Schmidt and Jeremias Pock taking runner-up and notching A-cuts in their respective 200 breast race. Sawyer Lehman placed fifth in the men's A-final, while Caprice Schlueter and Elisa Funes both notched B-cuts in the women's B-final, with the former crashing the UIndy top 10 at No. 7.

Four Greyhounds entered or improved their standing in the UIndy's all-time top 10 in the 200 back. Silas Buessing won the men's B-final with a 1:45.31, upping his own No. 2 position in the school annals. Sophomore Jokubas Jankauskas scored fifth-place points while improving his own seventh position on the top 10 list, while Jan Schmidt and Valentina Masella both recorded B-cut times and eighth-fastest times on their respective UIndy top 10s.

Zachary Anthony tied for second in the men's 100 free, with his time of 43.98 good for a share of sixth in the school's record book.

Elias Noe and Hanna Burke both won their respective B-finals in the 200 fly, with Noe's 1:47.44 putting him seventh all-time at UIndy.

Both 400 free relays hit NCAA provisional times, with the men placing third and the women seventh.

FRIDAY RECAP
Noe's 100 fly swim produced a monster time, topping his previous best by nearly a full second and outpacing runner-up Dillon Edge of Notre Dame by more than a second. He now finds himself atop the UIndy top 10 list as the program's new record holder at 46.11.

Senior Celina Schmidt also earned an A-cut, winning the women's 100 breast with a 1:00.88. On the men's side, Jeremias Pock won the 100 breast as well, just missing the automatic standard with a 52.46. Both Megan Gregory and Mmusi Matthews also earned a spot in their respective 100 breast A-final, with both improving B-cut times on the day.

Caprice Schlueter posted a 54.40 in the women's 100 fly, securing fourth place with the second-fastest time in program history.

Freestylers Swann Plaza and Nico Basten also penciled their names in the Greyhound top-10 list, placing third and sixth in the 200 free, respectively. The former's time of 1:35.36 put him third in program history, while the latter's 1:37.31 was good for fifth.

Jan Schmidt finished third in the men's 400 IM with a 3:49.71 to elbow his way to No. 5 amongst UIndy's all-time fastest in the event. Silas Buessing won the 400 IM B-final, significantly improving his B-cut time with a 3:50.47.

Valentina Masella's placed eighth in the women's 100 back, while her prelim time of 55.27 upped her B-cut and put her seventh all-time at UIndy.

Freshman diver Donovan McMahon had an impressive day on the 3-meter board, placing third while hitting the NCAA's six-dive standard with a score of 339.50. Junior Megan Sunderman led the UIndy women on the one-meter, placing sixth (221.80)

The evening featured just one relay—the 200 medley. The UIndy men's team of Johann-Matthew Matamoro, Pock, Zachary Anthony and Noe held off the host RedHawks for second place, setting an NCAA provisional time in the process (1:26.82). Meanwhile, Masella, Gregory, Schlueter and Kirabo Namutebi placed fourth (1:41.37).

THURSDAY RECAP
The Hounds notched a pair of A cuts on the day, with Kirabo Namutebi (50 free) and Swann Plaza (500 free) officially punching their tickets to nationals. Namutebi won her sprint race with a time of 22.31—after an even-faster 22.27 in the morning prelims—while Plaza set a new pool record and just missed the UIndy benchmark with a 4:16.21. Both times are the fastest marks in their respective event in Division II this season.

Four other UIndy men improved or set B-cuts in the 500, including a 4:20.17 from Jan Schmidt, putting him third on the UIndy top-10 list.

Senior Jeremias Pock also earned a win, with he and teammate Nico Basten going 1-2 in the men's 200 IM. Both improved their B-cut standards, with Pocks' 1:44.71 coming in just .05 seconds behind the A standard. Basten, meanwhile, put his name in the No. 2 spot on the school top 10 with a 1:45.70.

Celina Schmidt led UIndy's efforts in the women's 200 IM. The All-American was one of a trio of Greyhounds to improve on her B standard, with her time of 2:00.78 good for fourth place.

The men's sprinters saw similar results, with three Greyhounds shaving time off existing B cuts. Zachary Anthony became the first Greyhound this year—and ninth ever—to go sub-20 in the 50 free, posting a 19.85 to finish runner-up. Elias Noe (20.11) and Johann-Matthew Matamoro (20.21) also scored points in the A-final.

All four relay times found success. Both 400 medley relay squads placed second and hit NCAA provisional times, with the women's quartet of Valentina Masella, Schmidt, Caprice Schlueter and Namutebi touching less than a half second behind a school-record pace. The UIndy 200 free relay teams both placed third, while both also trimmed provisional times.

Lillie Arps finished third in the 500 free C-final with a B-cut time of 5:02.40, and Silas Buessing won the 200 IM B-final with a time of 1:48.15 to improve his B time.

On the boards, two UIndy men earned a spot in the one-meter A-final. Freshman Donovan McMahon placed fifth, followed closely by teammate Adam Carr in seventh. Junior Megan Sunderman finished seventh on the three-meter board.
