INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 4 seed, UIndy men's soccer team, fell in the GLVC Quarterfinal on Friday night against No. 5 Maryville, 1-0, in a tightly contested match.
This is the second time these two sides have squared off in the Greyhounds' last five matches, with the teams officially splitting the 2025 series. The Saints have taken five of the last seven contests dating back to the 2020-21 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tonight's contest was a complete flip of the first matchup this season between these two. The first match up saw seven goals, while tonight's contest only saw one goal, but was full of chances at both ends.
The Saints got on the board first and early, after a solo run from Sebastian Weitlaner was tucked away to put Maryville ahead after just five minutes played.
After the Maryville goal, the Hounds settled in and began creating quality chances on the other end. August Abrahamsen, Lucas Bedleg, and Roman Beko all recorded a shot on goal in the first half. Abrahamsen's chance was the best of the three, when his chance was heroically cleared off the goal line by an outstretched Saints defender to keep the Hounds off the board.
The second half was a grind, with the Saints looking to churn the clock and the Hounds forced to be patient in creating its chances.
Jona Hogle and Kabiru Gafar both had efforts to knot the game late in the contest, but both shots hit the outside of the goal, and fell harmlessly wide for Maryville's Asgrimur Vidisson to lock up the Saints' spot in the GLVC semifinal.
