INDIANAPOLIS - On the second day of the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship, the University of Indianapolis women's tennis team was bested by No. 8 Wingate 4-0 in the consolation match. The Greyhounds move to 2-3 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
With a shorthanded lineup, the Greyhounds started down 0-1 in the match and 0-1 in the doubles point. Wingate won the doubles point with Daniela Kotara and Chloe Kosmrj taking down Suryanshi and
Linya Chen in #1 doubles to take the second point of the match.
Silvia Zappoli and
Jimena De Pablos Hernando kept things close in #2 doubles against Gigi Hinson and Suzuka Sambyakugari, but the match went unfinished.
In singles, the Hounds played the Bulldogs very tightly, but Wingate managed to secure timely wins to keep UIndy at bay. Kosmrj defeated Zappoli in #1 singles 6-3 6-0 to extend Wingate's lead to 3-0. The match finished when Claudia Vallejos topped
Andrea Garcia 6-1 6-3 in #5 singles, despite many matches that UIndy was contesting. When the match finished, Suryanshi had a 6-2 5-1 lead on Sophie Quadraine in #4 singles, De Pablos Hernado was tied in the first set at 6-6 with Sambyakugari in #3 singles, and Chen was going into a third set with Fernando Castillo in #2 singles.
