Box Score Chattanooga, TN – In their first match over a spring break trip to Tennessee, the University of Indianapolis women's tennis team defeated Young Harris College 4-3. The Greyhounds improve to 4-4 on the season.
INS AND OUTS
UIndy took the doubles point in a comeback thriller, picking up wins at #2 and #3 doubles. Tyffaine Pais and Sofia Cardenas fell in #1 doubles to Furtaba Saito and Simone Mercier to give Young Harris a 1-0 lead.
Suryanshi and Linya Chen took home a 6-4 win in #3 doubles over Andreia Semeano and Callie Stanfield. The Greyhounds clinched the doubles point with a tiebreaker win in #2 doubles, as Jimena De Pablos Hernando and Silvia Zappoli took down Holly Ashford and Maud Scholten 7-6.
In singles, Suryanshi bested Mercier 6-2 6-1 in #1 singles. Viviana Gomez Lopez responded with a win in #2 singles over Zappoli, winning 6-4 6-2. The Hounds took a 3-1 lead when Linya Chen finished Semeano in straight sets, with a 6-3 6-4 win at #4 singles.
Young Harris picked up their second point of the match after Scholten ousted De Pablos Hernando in #3 singles, winning 6-2 1-6 6-3.
The Mountain Lions contested the match further down the stretch, as Stanfield outlasted Garcia in a third-set tiebreak 6-4 1-6 11-9, knotting the match at 3 for both sides.
It all came down to the #5 singles court, with Cardenas battling Saito. Cardenas took the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-3) Saito responded back with a 6-1 win in the second set. The third-set tiebreaker was a nailbiter, but Cardenas finally found a break a clinched the match with a 12-10 win.
