INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Indianapolis women's tennis team opened its fall season this weekend at the UIndy Fall Classic, competing against players from Butler, Marian and IU Indianapolis at Center Grove High School and Center Grove Middle School North. The Greyhounds recorded six singles victories and two doubles wins over the two-day event. 

The ladies will return to action when they make the trip up to Grand Rapids, Michigan from October 10th through the 12th for the ITA Midwest Regional.

INS AND OUTS

The Greyhounds collected one singles victory during Saturday's opening round, with Linya Chen earning a straight-set win over Butler's Poplin, 6-3, 7-5. 

UIndy found more success in consolation play on Sunday. At the top flight, Maelys Thiery-James rebounded with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory over Marian's Imamniyazova. Jimena De Pablos Hernando followed with a convincing 6-4, 6-1 win against Marian's Lopez Torres.

At No. 3 singles, Silvia Zappoli battled back after dropping the opening set to defeat Marian's Fairier, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7).

The Greyhounds added another win during the tournament's final round with Agnes Cross earning a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Marian's Caceres.

In doubles competition, the pairing of Silvia Zappoli and Magda Kornijczuk finished the weekend on a high note, defeating IU Indianapolis' Jankovic and Bailey, 6-1, in the final round. 

The duo of Agnes Cross and Mirte Post also ended the tournament with a victory, edging Marian's Caceres and Roccaforte, 7-6 (5), in a tightly contested match. 

Other Greyhounds competing throughout the weekend included Ayse Yagmur Baylen, Magda Kornijczuk, Lexia Goldberg, Anni Tieu and the doubles team of Jimena De Pablos Hernando and Noelle Compton.
