Men's Lacrosse Suffers Loss at No. 1 Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The UIndy men's lacrosse team made some noise, but ultimately fell to No. 1 Tampa on Saturday afternoon down in the Sunshine State.

A big second quarter lifted the top-ranked Spartans past the Greyhounds, scoring five straight goals in the frame.

Triston Schaffer recorded his third hat trick of the season and first since Feb. 22 at Lenoir-Rhyne.

INS & OUTS
Schaffer netted two of his goals in the opening frame, starting the scoring less than a minute into the contest off an assist from Brandon Nemit. The senior then gave UIndy a 2-1 lead at the 2:19 mark of the first quarter.

Ryan Carver evened the game at three apiece with his first goal of the afternoon before the Spartans rattled off five consecutive scores over a six-minute stretch. Keegan Laughlin snapped the streak to put the Hounds within four at halftime.

The UIndy defense limited Tampa to just one goal over the final 15+ minutes, but three goals in the fourth period would not be enough. Matt Pereira and Nick Luitwieler joined the scoring column, both unassisted.

AJ Preachuk kept the Greyhounds alive on the defensive end, making 15 saves between the pipes. Overall, Tampa turned the  ball over just 10 times and launched 17 more total shots on Saturday.
