Sunday Split Caps Lengthy Road Swing

LIBERTY, Mo. – The UIndy softball team wrapped up a long road trip Sunday, splitting a conference twin bill at William Jewell College. The No. 17 Greyhounds earned a 7-1 win in the opener before enduring a 8-6 loss in game two.

GAME 1 | UIndy 7, WJC 1
The Hounds got another solid start from freshman pitcher Cheyenne Eads (7-6). The Shelbyville, Ind., native notched her ninth complete game of the season, allowing three hits and striking out nine to get the win.

Neither team got on the board until the fourth inning when the Hounds managed a rally that proved to be the difference. With one down, two singles and a walk loaded the bases for senior Tori Angles.

Making her first start of the year, Angles worked a four-pitch walk to force the first run across. Josie Jager (groundout) and Jocelyn Calvin (single) immediately followed with RBIs of their own.

Angles later doubled to lead off the sixth, sparking another three-run rally to help the Hounds pull away.

Calvin finished 3-for-3 with a walk, Maya Rodriguez and Jager each had a pair of hits with the latter adding two RBIs.

GAME 2 | WJC 8, UIndy 6
UIndy fell behind in the first inning then later tied it at 3-3 in the top of the third on a two-run double by Rodriguez. But the Cardinals answered with four runs in the bottom half and kept the Hounds at arm's length the rest of the way.

Back-to-back doubles in the from Cara Cooper and Brooklyn Willis in the fifth fueled a two-run surge. Later Rodriguez added another ribbie in the top of the seventh before the score settled at 8-6.

Jager (1-2) got the starting nod in the circle and lasted two-plus innings. Isabelle Noble tossed the bulk of the remained frames, allowing one run in 3 1/3.
