Taking advantage of the sunny weather on Friday, the UIndy softball team split its home-opening doubleheader at Baumgartner Field against visiting Southwest Baptist. The GLVC foes traded rule-run wins, including a 13-5 Greyhounds victory in game one..

GAME 1 | UIndy 13, SBU 5 (5 innings)
UIndy jumped on the Bearcats with a four-run first inning and maintained the lead the rest of the way. The Hounds later went up 7-1 and eventually walked it off with a five-run outburst in in the fifth. They racked up five hits and a walk in the final frame, including an RBI double from
Tori Angles and a two-run single by
Sydney Oliver.

Brooklyn Willis led the offense by going 4-fo-4 with a pair of doubles. She,
Cheyenne Eads and
Maya Rodriguez did not make a single out in 12 total plate appearances. Rodriguez and Oliver had a team-high three ribbies apiece.

Eads earned a complete-game win in the circle, moving to 8-6 on the year. She scattered eight hits while striking out six and walking zero.

GAME 2 | SBU 9, UIndy 0 (5 innings)
The Bearcats turned the tables in game two, earning a run-rule win of their own. The Greyhounds had a chance to make an impact early, putting two on with less than two outs in each of the first two innings, but could not cash in.

The Hounds employed four pitchers in the contest.
Josie Jager (1-3) got the start and pitched a scoreless first before getting in trouble in the second.
Isabelle Noble pitched the bulk of the game, fanning three in three-plus innings.
Noble also notched her first collegiate base hit in the second inning. Rodriguez and
Kaitlyn Flynn added singles as the only other Hounds to join the hit column.
