Walk-Off Win Caps Weekend Action For UIndy Softball

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy softball team ended the weekend on a high note, walking off with a 9-8 win versus visiting Drury Saturday afternoon. After the Panthers managed a 6-2 win in the opener, the Greyhounds sealed the win in game two with a seventh-inning sac fly by senior Tori Angles.

GAME 1 | Drury 6, UIndy 2
UIndy briefly took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, as Cara Cooper and Brooklyn Willis each earned an RBI. But the Panthers pushed across the game-tying run the next half inning and surged ahead with a three-run fifth. The decisive frame included a pair of Greyhound fielding errors that led to two unearned runs.

Cheyenne Eads (8-7) took the loss in the complete-game effort. She struck out eight and walked one in seven innings, with only three of her charged runs dubbed as earned.

GAME 2 | UIndy 9, Drury 8
UIndy sprinted out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, with Eads and Shelby Cook delivering timely hits.

The Panther eventually clawed their way back, however. A hectic top of the fifth saw the visitors plate six big runs to leapfrog in front, 8-6.

The lead only lasted an inning, with UIndy knotting it up in the bottom of the sixth. A double by Angles and a single from Sydney Oliver set the table for Brooklyn Willis, who plated both teammates with a screamer down the right field line.

Eads—who ultimately earned the pitching win—returned to the circle in the top of the seventh inning, erasing a leadoff walk by retiring three straight Panthers.

She led off the bottom half with a walk of her own and was moved to third on a hit by pitch and a fielder's choice. That brought up Angles one last time, who lifted a deep fly ball to left. Eads tagged up  and slid home safely to clinch the win.
