INDIANAPOLIS – The seventh-ranked UIndy women's lacrosse team dropped a 9-8 overtime decision to No. 10 Lynn on Sunday afternoon at Key Stadium.
Â
Lynn's Rebecca Clark found the back of the cage with just two seconds left in the first overtime period.
Â
Olivia Bladon finished with a hat trick on the home side, while securing a team-high six draw controls. Sophomore keeper
Ava Graham made nine saves between the pipes, including one in the extra session.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams traded goals the final 21 minutes, with neither team leading by more than one.
Caroline Krauch and
Malaena Michielin scored back-to-back goals early in the fourth quarter to put the Greyhounds back ahead, but it was Bladon with third score of the afternoon that sent the game to overtime at the 3:21 mark of the frame.
Â
Each team had multiple chances, but turned it over in the first three minutes of OT. Bladon had a look to win it with just 1:03 remaining, but Lynn netminder Ava Cegilia made her ninth save of the contest that resulted in the final scoring chance for the Fighting Knights. It appeared Graham got a piece of Clark's game-winner, but snuck past the sophomore to win it for the visitors.
Â
Both goalies finished with nine saves, while Lynn outshot UIndy, 26-20.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX
- Krauch filled the stat sheet, adding four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and one draw control to her pair of goals.
- The teams combined for 37 turnovers, more than half of which were unforced. Three Greyhounds were credited with caused turnovers, including
Amanda Hurry with two.
- UIndy won the ground game, with
Sage Da Silva recording three scoops.
- The Hounds held the Fighting Knights scoreless for an 18-and-a-half minute stretch during the middle frames before a fourth-quarter goal snapped the drought.
