INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 17 UIndy softball team opened conference play Friday afternoon, hosting Upper Iowa at local Beech Grove High School on the southside of Indianapolis. After falling by a slim 5-4 margin in game one, the Greyhounds earned a comeback win in game two, punctuated by a walkoff single by freshman
Brooklyn Willis.

GAME 1 | Upper Iowa 5, UIndy 4
Back-to-back RBI doubles from
Maya Rodriguez and
Ella Palm in the bottom of the sixth staked the Hounds to a 3-2 lead heading into the final frame.
Â
But in the top of the seventh, an infield single and a walk set the stage for senior Tristin Doster, who drove a pitch over the leftfield fence to give the Peacocks the lead for good. UIndy would later put the potential tying run at second before falling, 5-4.
Â
Besides surrendering the go-head home run, freshman pitcher
Cheyenne Eads (3-4) had a solid outing. She went the distance, holding the Peacocks scoreless for the opening 4 1/3 innings before finishing with 10 strikeouts.
Â
The UIndy offense racked up a season-high seven doubles, including three from
Cara Cooper.
Centerfielder
Sydney Oliver gunned down a runner at the plate to end the Peacock's fifth-inning rally—good for her fourth outfield assist of the season.

GAME 2 | UIndy 9, Upper Iowa 8
The Hounds found themselves in a six-run hole before the bats finally got going. UIndy halved the lead with a three-run fourth inning before tying it with a four-run rally in the fifth. Cooper's two-run single started the surge, while four consecutive UIndy batters recorded ribbies to knot it at 7-7.
Â
The seventh inning proved eventful for both sides. Upper Iowa managed to retake the lead with a solo homer from Doster. The Hounds answered with another RBI by Cooper, who plated pinch runner
Tori Angles to tie it. Willis ended it a batter later, sending a ball back up the middle for the walkoff hit.

Â
Senior pitcher
Jayden Casebolt (6-1) battled in and out of trouble but got just enough outs to earn the win. She overcame three Upper Iowa home runs, most in a Greyhound win since April of 2019.
Cheyenne Eads amassed two hits, a walk and a run, while
Jocelyn Calvin had a pair of hits and a pair of runs.
