SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The UIndy softball team traded wins with Illinois Springfield Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds downed the host Prairie Stars in game one, 1-0, before falling in the capper, 6-4.

GAME 1 | UIndy 1, UIS 0
Cheyenne Eads pitched her second complete-game shutout in as many starts, upping her total to five on the season. She scattered six hits and fanned nine to move to 14-9. A highlight came in the second inning when Eads worked out of a bases-loaded, no-one jam, inducing a pop up and striking out the final two hitters to keep the Stars off the board.

Shelby Cook provided the clutch hit in the top of the sixth. With Eads standing on second base, the Murphysboro, Ill., native squirted the ball through the left side, allowing Eads just enough time to slide in safely with the go-ahead tally.
Â
Â
Cook finished the game 3-for-3 at the dish, with
Brooklyn Willis adding a double and a single.
Josie Jager chipped in a single and a walk, while
Tori Angles swiped a base.
Â
USI starter Rosie Bartletti (14-7) racked up an impressive 16 Ks in the losing effort, matching the highest total by a GLVC pitcher this spring.

GAME 2 | UIS 6, UIndy 4
UIndy nearly pulled off an exciting comeback in the capper. Trailing 5-0 heading into the sixth, the Hounds pushed across four runs to pull within one. All nine Greyhound hitters garnered an at bat in the frame, with
Jocelyn Calvin and
Sydney Oliver notching RBI singles.
Â
Nevertheless, the Stars managed to escape the innings with the slimmest of leads. They added an insurance tally in the bottom of the sixth and yielded only an Eads single in an otherwise quiet top of the seventh.
Â
Jayden Casebolt (12-4) took the loss in the circle, allowing 12 hits and six runs while striking out four and walking none.
Â
Reliever
Isabelle Noble retired the only batter she faced, helping the Hounds out of a second-and-third situation in the sixth. Oliver added an outfield assist in the same inning, throwing out a Stars base runner at home to minimize the damage.
Â
Eads went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Jager had a pair of singles, while Calvin had two ribbies.
