LEBANON, Ill. – In a battle of GLVC heavyweights, the UIndy softball team split a doubleheader at McKendree Sunday. The Greyhounds came out on top in a 10-inning pitchers' duel in game one, 4-3.
Â
GAME 1 | UIndy 4, McK 3 (10 innings)
With both starting pitchers keeping the offenses at bay, the game remained scoreless all seven innings of regulation and two more in extras before the Greyhounds finally broke through in the top of the 10th.
Â
Jocelyn Calvin earned a leadoff walk and eventually came around to score the go-ahead run on a misplayed ball to left.
Jayden Casebolt turned the screws with a two-run single, and
Sydney Oliver tacked on one more by hustling home on a wild pitch.

Â
UIndy needed all four runs, as Bearcats slugger Morgan Spodarek hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th to bring the home team to within one. And even after a two-out walk, Head Coach
Melissa Frost stuck with freshman hurler
Cheyenne Eads, who induced a ground ball to short to end the rally and the game.
Â
Eads' performance marked her third consecutive complete-game win. The runs in the 10th snapped a streak of 21 1/3 scoreless innings for the rookie pitcher. She bested McKendree starter Sami Huck in the process, who came into the day as the GLVC leader in Ks.
Â
GAME 2 | McK 14, UIndy 3
UIndy managed just four hits in the weekend finale, two coming off the bat of leadoff hitter
Brooklyn Willis. The freshman outfielder added two runs and two ribbies, while her second-inning home run upped her team-leading total to five.
Â
Josie Jager had an RBI single in the first, while Eads collected two hit by pitches.
