Greyhounds Walk Off Saints in Tuesday Sweep

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy softball team earned a sweep over in-region Thomas More Tuesday afternoon at Baumgartner Field, hitting the 30-win plateau in the process. The Greyhounds outraced the visiting Saints, 8-4, in game one, before senior Tori Angles delivered a clutch, walk-off single in a 7-6 victory.

GAME 1 | UIndy 8, TSU 4
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom to the fifth, a leadoff single from Cara Cooper and a first-pitch steal sparked the go-ahead rally.  Josie Jager followed with a walk before the Hounds strung together three consecutive hits to take the lead, capped by a two-run double by Jocelyn Calvin.

UIndy kept the pressure on by drawing two more walks ahead of Brooklyn Willis' two-run single. By the time the dust settled, five Greyhounds crossed the plate to give the home club a 6-2 advantage.

The Saints would later put the tying run at second in the top of the sixth, but with the bases loaded and two down, Jager came in and slammed the door by getting a groundout.

Starter pitching Cheyenne Eads returned to eventually earn the save. She began the day with 3 1/3 innings of no-hit softball before ultimately getting into trouble in the fourth. She was summoned back to the circle in seventh, ending a potential Saints rally before it started.

In between, freshman Isabelle Noble (1-0) tossed two innings and was credited with her first win as a collegian.

Calvin had two hits and three RBIs to lead the offense, while Eads recorded her first career home run with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth.

OTHER FUN FACTS
- Sophomore Abby Maguire garnered her first career start, getting the starting nod at third base.
- The teams combined for 23 walks, good for a season high.

GAME 2 | UIndy 7, TMU 6
UIndy fell behind, 4-2, in the fourth, and later lost a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh, but the determined Hounds bounced back again in the final frame. With the game knotted a six apiece, Eads set the table with a leadoff single. An error and a walk loaded them up for Angles, who ripped the ball the opposite way to score Eads with the game-winning run.

Ella Palm had perhaps her best game as a Greyhound. The Aviston, Ill., native went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, a run, an RBI and a walk. Eads had three base hits as well, while Willis added a pair of singles.

Senior starter Jayden Casebolt battled through 5 1/3 innings before finally yielding to Eads. Making her third trip to the circle of the day, Eads (16-9) got the final five outs, earning the win after the walk-off.

UP NEXT
The Hounds get right back at it tomorrow with a day trip to Ashland University. First pitch versus the in-region Eagles is set for 2 p.m. ET.
