Hounds Pick Up Two Road Wins At Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio – The UIndy softball team recorded its second doubleheader sweep of an in-region opponent in as many days, besting host Ashland Wednesday by scores of 5-2 and 2-1. The mid-week results avenge a 3-1 loss to the Eagles in the season opener.

GAME 1 | UIndy 5, AU 2
Reigning GLVC Pitcher of the Week Cheyenne Eads continued to deal, allowing just one hit through five innings before the Eagles finally broke up the shutout in the sixth. Eads went on to finish with six Ks and zero walks to move to 17-9 on the year.

After earning the walk-off hit in yesterday's final game, Tori Angles stayed hot with RBI hits in each of her first two ABs. She helped fuel a three-run second inning to give the Hounds the early edge.

The lead grew to 5-0 after the Hounds tacked on single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Jocelyn Calvin and Brooklyn Willis each accounted for two hits in the game, with the former driving in a pair and the latter adding a walk.

GAME 2 | UIndy 2, AU 1
UIndy entered the fifth inning trailing 1-0, but a leadoff homer from Angles shifted the momentum. The solo shot was good for her first round-tripper of the season and fourth of her career. A walk and two singles followed, with Cara Cooper crossing the plate with the go-ahead run on an error.

Meanwhile, three Greyhound pitchers combined to hold the Eagles to a single run. Starter Jayden Casebolt lasted 3 2/3 before she got into trouble. But Isabelle Noble (2-0) came in and got the final out of the inning to limit the damage, and later Eads came back to the circle garnered a well-earned save.

Cooper managed a single and a double, Eads had two base hits as well, while Casebolt added a single and a walk.
