Hounds Earn Road Win Under the Lights At Jewell

LIBERTY, MO. – The UIndy baseball team cruised past William Jewell on Friday night, 7-3, getting the Hounds to six games over .500 on the season, and 15-9 in GLVC play.

This is the Greyhounds' eighth win in the last 10 games against the Cardinals dating back to 2016.

The bats stayed hot for UIndy in this one with eight of the nine batters recording a hit, and four different Hounds; Austin Bode, Cole Hampton, Nick Lukac and Tré Hondras each with at least one RBI.

GAME 1 | UIndy 9, William Jewell 3
The Hounds got off to a hot start, doing most of their damage early by scoring six runs in the first three innings. This is the seventh time this season that UIndy has scored at least six runs in the first three innings of a game.

Lukac's two run RBI single in the first inning got things going for the Hounds, which were followed by RBIs from Bode and Hondras in the second inning to push UIndy's lead out to 4-1. Hampton then pushed their lead out to 6-1 with a two run home run. This is his eighth home run hit in his last 10 games, which also extended his on base streak to 22 consecutive games.

UIndy's bats weren't the only story of the night, Diego Cardenas pitched another gem for the Hounds. He made his longest outing of the season by going eight innings, recording 10 strikeouts and only allowing three runs on seven hits. This is the third time in Cardenas' career that he's pitched eight innings, and the third time he's recorded double digit punch outs in a single game.

With a 6-1 lead heading into the sixth, the Hounds capped things off with three more runs to seal the 9-3 win. Two of those runs came because of stolen bases from Easton Good and Hondras. UIndy racked up eight stolen bases this season. They have been dominant all season when it comes to stealing bags, ranking first in the GLVC and top 20 in all of NCAA Division II baseball.

UP NEXT
The Hounds will turn around tomorrow for a doubleheader against William Jewell at 2 p.m., as they look to extend their win streak to five straight games.
