SPRINGFIELD, ILL – To remain undefeated in conference play, the University of Indianapolis defeated Illinois Springfield 5-2. The Greyhounds move to 10-5 on the season.
INS AND OUTS
UIndy fell behind 1-0 in doubles competition, with UIS taking wins at the #1 and #2 slots.
Tyffaine Pais and Sofia Cardenas fell to Carmen Llopis and Emma Bordean 6-3 in #1 doubles, while Silvia Zappoli and Jimena De Pablos Hernando dropped their match at #2 doubles 6-3. The lone win came from Suryanshi and Linya Chen at #3 doubles, topping Man Nuam and Cristina Mendoza 6-2.
The comeback started with De Pablos Hernando's 6-4 6-1 win at #3 singles over Kamila Kalinowska, leveling the match at 1-1. Suryanshi gave the Hounds a 2-1 lead with a 6-1 6-7 6-3 win at #2 singles over Bordean.
The Prairie Stars knotted the match at 2-2 with Llopis besting Pais in a three-set tiebreak thriller, finishing the match 7-6, 6-2, 7-6.
Chen made quick work of Niamh Grogan at #4 singles to put the Hounds on top 3-2, with a 6-1 6-2 final result. Zappoli finished Man Nuam with ease at #6 singles, with a 6-1 6-0 win. Cardenas closed the afternoon with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Mendoza at #5 singles.
