INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 8 UIndy women's lacrosse team upped its win streak to four to end the regular season on Sunday, defeating Missouri Western by a score of 20-8 at Key Stadium.
Â
Prior to the game, the program celebrated lone senior
Caroline Krauch, who has contributed to 44 wins, two GLVC titles, and two NCAA DII tournament appearances…thus far. Krauch recorded one goal in Sunday's win, while adding one caused turnover, one draw control, and one ground ball.
Â
The Greyhounds scored 13 of their 20 goals in the second half, including nine in the third quarter to start the running clock.
Olivia Bladon led all players in scoring for the second straight game, scoring a game-high five goals to up her season total to 64, matching her total from last spring.
Â
INS & OUTS
Missouri Western kept it close in the first 15 minutes, trading goals with UIndy until Bladon gave the Hounds the lead for good with 11 seconds left in the opening frame. The trio of
Sage Da Silva,
Malaena Michielin, and
Ella Fornek rattled off three consecutive goals in the second quarter to increase the Greyhounds' advantage to four before MWSU's Maddie Chidester stopped the bleeding with 4:13 left before the break.
Â
The third quarter was all Greyhounds, with Krauch capping the seven-goal run through the first 10 minutes of the period. Freshman
Kendall Conrad added two goals during the stretch, while Bladon officially gave herself a hat trick within 31 seconds early in the frame.
Alexa Versaci, who dished out a season-high five assists on Sunday – and eight of her 16 this season on the weekend – scored her only goal to begin the third quarter off an assist from Bladon.
Â
As fun as the offense performed, it was the midfield and defense that put the Hounds in position to score. UIndy's ride held MWSU to a paltry 7-for-19 effort on the clear, with multiple failed clears in three quarters. Conrad and Versaci were credited with a team-high two caused turnovers, as was
Emily Ghazal.
Â
After making just one stop in the first quarter, sophomore netminder
Ava Graham finished with 11 saves in her 11th win of the spring. Graham also scooped up a ground ball at the end of the first half on a toss down field by the Griffons.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX
- Bladon's 64 goals is fourth in program history in a single season and is just five from tying Grace Gunneson's 2019 total.
-
Hollis Rang picked up a team-high three ground balls, while fellow defenders
Amanda Hurry and
Mariah Whitfield tallied two apiece.
- Da Silva, Michielin, and Fornek all recorded a hat trick in the win; it marks Da Silva's seventh, Michielin's fourth, and Fornek's third hatty of the season.
- With another four draw controls against the Griffons, Bladon's 99 total wins this season puts her atop the single-season list in program history for players not named
Peyton Romig. Her next draw control will make her the fifth Greyhound ever with triple digits.
Â
HOUND BYTES
Romig on Krauch's contributions to the program…
"Caroline has been an integral part of our team since transferring in three years ago. She brings a lot of speed, talent, and personality to our team and it shows on and off the field. She had a great senior game, excelling on the defensive end of the field. She will be missed and we are lucky to have her to finish out this postseason run."
