Men’s Lacrosse Squeaks by Jewell on Senior Day

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's lacrosse snuck away with its first GLVC win of the season on Saturday, squeaking by William Jewell at Key Stadium, 6-5, with a late goal from Ryan Carver.

Carver scooped up a loose ball in front of the cage, firing it past Jewell netminder Fynn Ziebarth for his lone goal of the afternoon.

Tanner Hahm, who drew his first start of the spring, finished with a team-high three points, while AJ Preachuk made six second-half saves to hold off the fighting Cardinals.

INS & OUTS
Nick Luitwieler got the scoring started early in the first quarter, as Hahm was credited with his first of two assists in the win. However, the Jewell defense locked down the UIndy attack, holding the Crimson & Grey scoreless for the next 30+ minutes to build a 3-1 lead.

Hahm and Nathan Lam knotted the game at three apiece with goals 35 seconds apart early in the third, the second of which came with a man-up advantage at the 10:50 mark. The Cardinals answered like they did all afternoon, taking another two-goal lead with five minutes left in the period.

Triston Shaffer tied the game at five early in the final frame, following a third-quarter score from Dylan Silva. It was Alec Score that gave the Hounds the scoring opportunity, causing a turnover on the other end and led the attack the length of the field before finding Schaffer.

The Greyhounds took inspiration from Jewell's first-half defense, holding the Cardinals scoreless over the final 20+ minutes. Four of Preachuk's saves came in the fourth quarter, while UIndy committed just four turnovers in the second half.

Carver's game-winner with under five minutes left was the reward for his fourth ground ball of the game, including his second in the offensive zone after a shot.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Nat Jun won seven faceoffs in the win, scooping up six of his own ground balls in the process.
- Jewell committed 27 turnovers compared to UIndy's 15, 12 of which were uncaused.
- Score and Mitchell Carik combined for 10 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
