INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy softball team dropped both games of its league doubleheader to Maryville on Monday afternoon in its return to Baumgartner Field since March 26.
GAME 1 | Maryville 8, UIndy 1
Cara Cooper got the Hounds on the board first. In a scoreless game in the bottom of the third inning, the Circleville, Ohio native launched 2-2 pitch over the Baumgartner Field scoreboard, staking UIndy to a 1-0 lead.
The Saints provided an emphatic answer in the top of the fourth, plating seven runs in the inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Jenna Kosnoff.
Josie Jager provided two of the Hounds' five hits, while
Cheyenne Eads had a second-inning double.
Eads (12-9) took the loss in the circle, lasting 3 2/3 innings and striking out six.
Isabelle Noble pitched the final 3 1/3, allowing just one run and fanning four.
GAME 2 | Maryville 8, UIndy 1
The Saints kept the bats warm between contests, starting off the nightcap with a pair of crooked numbers in the first two frames. Maryville built a 6-0 lead off UIndy starter
Jayden Casebolt (11-3) before Jager took over in the circle during the second inning.
The visitors added a run in their half of the sixth with Emily Corona's second homer of the afternoon.
Maryville starting pitcher Cora Boyle kept the Greyhound offense at bay, as the home team only managed two hits against her. The lone run of game two when
Sydney Oliver drove in
Jocelyn Calvin on a sixth-inning groundout, who reached second base thanks to an error by the Saints' left fielder.
Hailey Thompson closed the seventh with a groundout in her first appearance since March 21 against Southwest Baptist.
