Hounds Notch Two Run-Rule Wins Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy softball team got back to business Wednesday, earning two region wins over visiting Cedarville. The Greyhounds won both ends of the doubleheader via run-rule, blanking the Lady Jackets, 9-0, in five innings before dismissing them, 11-2, in six.

GAME 1 | UIndy 9, CU 0 (5 innings)
Some first-inning pop propelled the Hounds to an early 3-0 lead. After Cara Cooper led off with a hit by pitch, Brooklyn Willis smoked an RBI double ahead of a two-run blast by Josie Jager. The homer was Jager's first as a collegian. She has at least one hit in eight of the last nine contests.

Meanwhile, starting pitcher Cheyenne Eads (13-9) kept hanging zeros on the scoreboard, notching her fourth shutout of the season. She finished with a two-hitter, striking out nine and walking just one.

Junior Shelby Cook had a productive game at the plate, collecting a double and a triple, scoring twice and driving in two more. Both Jocelyn Calvin and Maya Rodriguez added a walk and a ribbie.

GAME 2 | UIndy 11, CU 2 (6 innings)
UIndy tallied a run in both the first and second innings before a 45-minute rain delay paused the action and potentially the Greyhound momentum.

But the Hounds returned to the diamond unfazed, breaking it open with a four-spot in the bottom of the third. The decisive rally was punctuated by a gapper from Sydney Oliver—her first of two doubles in the game—scoring Cook and Eads to extend the lead to 6-0.

Casebolt (12-3) tossed three hitless frames before the Jackets finally got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. She eventually escaped the inning, going on to pitch two more scoreless before the Hounds walked it off in the sixth.

Cooper had two hits, two walks and three runs out of the leadoff spot, while Oliver finished 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs. Eight different Greyhounds scored at least one run.

UP NEXT
The Hounds return to the road with a trip to Illinois Springfield on Saturday before a quick jaunt down to McKendree on Sunday.
