EAST PEORIA, Ill.  – The sixth-seeded UIndy softball team stayed hot Thursday at the GLVC Championship Tournament, downing No. 7-seed Missouri S&T, 5-1. In a rematch of last year's conference final, the Greyhounds got another complete-game win from freshman
Cheyenne Eads, while shortstop
Cara Cooper tied the program's single-season record for doubles.

UIndy remains in the winners' bracket to face top-seeded Drury tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. Eastern, 10 a.m. local. Tomorrow's winner will move on to the GLVC championship game on Saturday, while the loser will play an elimination game Friday afternoon.

The eight-team, double-elimination tournament is being held at EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill., April 30-May 3.

The Hounds jumped in front with a three-run surge in the top of the third. Walks from
Shelby Cook and
Brooklyn Willis started the rally, and later, doubles from
Cara Cooper and
Jocelyn Calvin sandwiched a swinging bunt RBI from
Josie Jager. Cara's two-bagger was her 21st of the year, matching Casey Williamson's school-record total from 2012.

Meanwhile, freshly-minted
GLVC Freshman of the Year Cheyenne Eads (21-10) came up big in the circle. After escaping a first-inning jam, she settled in for seven strong innings, fanning six and allowing just one run.

UIndy's final two runs came in a productive fifth inning.
Brooklyn Willis jump started the inning with a one-out double, with Jager and Calvin following with RBI knocks.

Calvin led the offense with two doubles and two ribbies.
Sydney Oliver added a single and a stolen base.
